Milwaukee Marathon Support – Nov. 6th

Village Church recently began a new and exciting ministry. Initially we called it “Police Appreciation Event” then “Bar Night”, but now it is called the Village Church “Power Shift”.

Our neighbors on the block are bars, a pizza restaurant, and a gentleman’s club; just a few blocks away are several concert venues, and soon the Milwaukee Bucks Arena will be our new neighbor. This makes for vibrant nightlife on our block, especially on the weekends. In their effort to keep the public safe, the Milwaukee Police Department created their weekend “Power Shift” from 10pm – 3am. This includes the regular night shift officers assigned to the district plus other officers who work overtime. We understand that this can be a difficult job.

To show our appreciation for their work, Village Church created its own “Power Shift”. Begun as a one-time event, Village Church is now open on the 1st and 3rd Friday of every month from 10pm-3am. We open our doors and offer coffee, water, pizza (donated by the neighboring pizzeria), snacks and yes even the occasional donut to the officers working the Power Shift. It is a time for laughter and listening as we have begun building relationships with these hard working officers.

However, we do not limit our ministry to the men and women in blue. Our open door and open hearts have welcomed young people curious about what’s going on in our building that late at night and that early in the morning. This ministry is also taking us outside our own doors to meet and interact with the people on our block. We have begun building relationships with the owners, servers, and security personnel who work the bar next door. Villagers who serve on this Power Shift truly feel more connected to our block and empowered in our ministry.

So you see it does Take a Village! And when the love of God and the life of the city meet there is truly a Power Shift.
