We worship at 10am. As the church year begins again with Advent on November 30th, we will be again using Rev. Dr. Wil Gafney’s Womanist Lectionary (Year A). This translation and selection of texts seeks to peel back some layers of patriarchal interpretation of the Bible. In her translations (especially in the Psalms), Dr. Gafney uses various names in place of the Hebrew “YHWH”. This name is considered so holy it couldn’t be pronounced, and throughout the millennia people of faith have created many work arounds to using that name. That is the source of the name “Jehovah”. Dr. Gafney stands in this long tradition. You will see this naming printed in all caps. This lectionary also will mainly focus on the story of Jesus as told in the gospel from Matthew. If you have any questions or would like to talk about this, feel free to contact Pastor Donna or Beth H.
In addition to the different scripture passages each week, the words we use for our prayers, litanies, and other parts of worship change every week. Sometimes these liturgical pieces are written by our own Villagers.
